
Suva Arterial Roads Upgrade, Suva Fiji

The purpose of the Suva Arterial Road Upgrade Project (SARUP) was to improve the main arterial roads in the Suva area, as part of the Fiji Roads Authority constructions and upgrading these roads as a full programmed capital project.
The road works started at Victoria Parade and Ended at Gordon Street to improve safety, by providing a smoother and less disruptive journey to road users.

Roads rehabilitation works
Roadwork conducted at Rt Mara Rd in Nabua was a new pavement modification method that strengthened the existing pavement which is also known as Foam Bitumen Stabilisation (FBS) topped up with asphalt surface finish. Works for the McArthur Rd were expected to be completed by May 2023, although were subject to weather conditions experienced in Suva.
Project works
Collaborating with the FRA
Part of the project included a major resealing project on selected sections of road along the Suva- Nausori corridor. Nevertheless, FRA worked closely with both the Land Transport Authority and the Fiji Police Force, to help manage traffic on a daily basis.
Roadworks
Queen Elizabeth Drive
Roadside amenities such as bus bays and installation of streetlights were part of the project works.
Traffic controllers were required to direct traffic flow in the area and as a result, a certain degree of roadworks during peak hours was inevitable.
Due Diligence
For project construction
New footpaths at Edinburgh Drive would increase safety of pedestrians, while due diligence including the protection of the cable of streetlights, it was also identified that school students (both tertiary and secondary) and the general public use the section, particularly workers and church members.
