Where it started
The Chinese Ministry of Railways formed two bureaus: one for construction and one for design.
This became the start of the
journey for CR5.
The ministry’s two bureaus were merged to form the General Bureau of Capital Construction
of the Ministry of Railways.

1950
China Railway Engineering Corporation (CRECG) and China Railway Construction Company (CRCC) were formed as subsidiaries of the ministry.
1989
2000
The two subsidiaries were transferred from the ministry to “Central Large Enterprise Work Commission” of the Communist Party of China.

CR5: 870+ local and expat employees in Fiji
With headquarters in Suva, the Fiji group employs 800 local staff alongside 80 Chinese expats.
The group is resourced by a continuously expanding list of plant and transport equipment, including dump trucks, loaders, rollers, road mixers, crew cabs, watercraft, hiper cranes, paver machines, stabilisers and excavators, as well as an impressive 4WD fleet.
Construction requirements are also supported by an asphalt concrete batching plant in Nausori, with similar plants in Lami and Nadi operating soon. A laboratory, which opened in 2018 carries out extensive soil and material testing, and employs 20 people.
